Significant Dates - Antisemitism

ETFO marks significant days recognizing Jewish communities, educating about the Holocaust and addressing anti-Semitism. ETFO encourages all Ontarians to learn about and take action on these days.

Observed since 1982, HEW is an internationally recognized week honouring the survivors of the Holocaust and commemorating those murdered by the Nazis.
International Holocaust Remembrance Day is an international memorial day on 27 January that commemorates the victims of the Holocaust, the genocide of European Jews by Nazi Germany between 1941 and 1945. 27 January was chosen to commemorate the date that Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated by the Red Army in 1945.
In 2018, Parliament unanimously passed a bill proclaiming that throughout Canada, the month of May will be marked as “Canadian Jewish Heritage Month”, celebrating the the contributions Jewish Canadians have been making to this country for 250 years.
