On April 29, 2017, people across the GTA gathered for a People’s Climate March in Toronto to stand up for communities and climate. ETFO was a proud sponsor of the event organized by teachers, environmentalists and the labour movement which was held to coincide with marches occurring around the world.
From pipelines to fossil fuels, Indigenous rights, dislocation caused by global climate change and the transition to green jobs, the issues surrounding climate change and the failure of governments to address them are many. The poor and most vulnerable, Indigenous and other communities are being disproportionately affected. Climate issues are increasingly intersecting with social justice issues, giving rise to new movements dedicated to climate justice and the need for solutions that are human- and nature-centred.
