Waterloo Region teacher Nathan Core re-elected as ETFO representative to Ontario Teachers’ Federation

August 18, 2021

For Immediate Release

TORONTO, ON – Nathan Core, a teacher and president of the Waterloo Region Occasional Teacher Local, has been re-elected as the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) representative to the Ontario Teachers’ Federation (OTF). Core was first elected to the ETFO provincial Executive in 2015.

“The educational landscape has changed significantly, and the government continues to use the pandemic crisis as a smokescreen to implement drastic changes behind the scenes. As the ETFO’s representative at the OTF executive table, I will ensure actions continue to be taken to safeguard public education and our profession,” says Core.

After obtaining a bachelor of education from the University of Windsor in 2007, Core taught internationally before becoming an occasional teacher with the Waterloo Region District School Board in 2010. He has been president of the Waterloo Region Occasional Teachers' Local since 2013 and has served on its Executive since 2011.

At the provincial level, Core was a member of the Regulation 274 Provincial Task Force, and a member of both the Canadian Labour Congress and the Ontario Federation of Labour’s credentials committees. Since 2017, he has been a governor of the Ontario Teachers’ Federation. Core received ETFO’s New Member Award in 2015.

ETFO represents 83,000 elementary public school teachers, occasional teachers and education professionals across the province. Its Building Better Schools education agenda can be viewed at BuildingBetterSchools.ca.
