World Cleanup Day

September 19, 2021

"World Cleanup Day harnesses the power of everyday people to achieve incredible things by joining together. Its beauty lies in cooperation and collaboration: building bridges between disparate communities, and including all levels of society - from citizens to businesses, to government. Volunteers and partners worldwide come together to rid our planet of trash - cleaning up litter and mismanaged waste from our beaches, rivers, forests, and streets. World Cleanup Day is the biggest event organized by the global organization Let's Do It World (LDIW)."

With the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s World Cleanup Day may look different to other years.

See how you can get involved in World Cleanup Day.

  • Watch the World Cleanup Day 2019 Summary.
  • If you can’t get outside on September 19 to clean up outdoor trash do a Digital Cleanup Day instead to help save the environment.
  • Don’t forget to register your digital cleanup day event.
  • When the time is right, use the World Cleanup Day toolbox to organize a cleanup.
  • Watch the video at World Cleanup Day Mapping for a Clean Planet and download the App Trashout to track/map the location of trash.
  • Brainstorm what can be done after World Cleanup Day to continue environmental stewardship in the future.
  • Conduct a waste audit or assessment of the composition of waste produced at your school. This can provide valuable information to help understand what steps are necessary at your specific location.
  • Promote the use of reusable water bottles and lunch containers.
  • Review the "Do's and Don'ts" of the Keep it Clean Plan to help keep up the momentum of World Cleanup Day.
